Benefits of Having a Tankless Water Heater in Your Home

Need a new water heater?

We're getting past the point of letting our neighbor save the earth. The consumer is starting to stand up and be more proactive regarding purchasing and installing more energy efficient home appliances. People are more willing to pay a little extra to go green and have an added benefit of being able take advantage of federal and local tax credits plus saving energy on high energy bills and not having to sacrifice comfort or convenience.

Tankless water heaters are the wave of the future. What does this mean for John Q. Consumer? There's a whole house system which is better installed during new home construction. If tankless water heaters are built along with the house, the cost of the unit and the installation is slightly more than the old tanked water heaters. We all know that if a home has the old style water heater and a leak develops that it can flood the home with 40 gallons of hot water. Lime deposits, bacteria, electrical elements burn out, natural gas and propane burners get clogged with sediments and reduce the efficiency of the water heater and any or all of these call for expensive repairs, replacements and/or maintenance.

After the expense of the installation of a tankless water heater it is fairly maintenance free for at least twenty years. This is not a DIY project! A plumber needs to be called to do the installation in an existing home. You need to be able to rely on a proper installation to enjoy all the benefits and savings of going tankless.

Perhaps you're adding on a new bathroom, utility room or work shop. This is when a point-of-use tankless water heater should be considered. Any plumber can easily install this compact unit under the sink. These units are electric and although they don't have an Energy Star rating they will certainly not take huge bites of an electric bill. They only kick on when the hot water faucet is engaged!
